FAQs
What is the typical length of the therapy process?
The duration of therapy varies based on your unique needs and the goals we set together. Some require short-term therapy to address a specific concern while others may engage in long-term therapy to address deeper more complex challenges. Throughout our work together, we will regularly review your goals and can adjust the frequency of sessions as needed to best support your continued growth and progress.
What will a typical session look like?
My aim is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel truly heard and empowered. Each therapy session typically begins with a brief check-in, where we’ll discuss how things have been since our last meeting. We’ll then explore any current issues or challenges you’d like to focus on. With adults, I’ll facilitate a conversation that explores emotions, thoughts and behavioural patterns. With children, I often use play and drawing to explore similar themes in a way that feels natural and comfortable for them. At the end of the session, we’ll reflect on what we’ve worked through and identify any action steps to focus on moving forward.
Do you work with individual family members separately or only as a group?
In family therapy, I generally work with the family as a unit as we collaborate to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. However, depending on the issues and concerns that arise, there are times when individual sessions, with either the parents or the child, are beneficial. For parents, one-on-one sessions can provide an opportunity to address issues in the couple relationship or personal concerns that may be impacting family dynamics. Similarly, a child may benefit from individual sessions to have a safe space to share their perspective and experience within the family. This approach allows each person to feel supported, while still contributing to the overall goals of family therapy.
How do you assess progress in therapy?
At the start of therapy, we’ll collaborate to create goals that align with your needs and priorities. Throughout our work together, we will take time to evaluate our progress towards these goals as well as discuss any challenges or obstacles that arise. Additionally, as we work together, new areas of focus may emerge. We will remain flexible and open to adjusting our goals and approach as needed to ensure we continue making progress toward what’s most important to you.
How do you handle confidentiality?
I take confidentiality very seriously as it is essential for creating a safe and trusting environment where you feel comfortable sharing openly. Everything you share with me in our sessions stays between us unless there’s a legal or safety concern where I am required to share information. If I am ever required to break confidentiality, I will always inform you first and explain my reasoning. My priority is to ensure you feel safe and supported throughout our work together.
How do you involve children in therapy (if applicable)?
When working with children in therapy, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves. This often involves playing games, as well as exercises (worksheets) and drawing activities. Through these creative methods, children can explore emotions and situations in a way that feels comfortable to them. Throughout the process, I also work closely with the parents, to offer guidance and strategies that can support their child’s growth outside of sessions.
This collaborative approach helps to create lasting, positive change for the whole family.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer both virtual and in-person appointments! We may find that in-person sessions are preferred with young children, but I also offer virtual sessions for accessibility and convenience.
Where are your in-person sessions held?
I have an office space at The Toronto Wellness Collective at 489 College St., Toronto.
How long are your sessions?
My sessions are 50 mins.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice for any cancellation.
What is your rate?
My rate is $185 per session, the average rate for Registered Social Workers in Toronto.
Are your sessions covered by insurance? Can you bill my insurance provider directly?
Many insurance providers have “Social Workers” or “Psychotherapists” as part of their mental health benefits coverage. It’s best to check directly with your insurance provider before we start our ongoing sessions.
Unfortunately, I am not able to bill your insurance provider directly, but of course, I will provide a receipt after every session.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Through the software I use, many credit/debit cards are accepted including: Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, Debit Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, UnionPay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Payments are made automatically with the card on file after each session.
