My Approach

In my practice, I draw on several therapeutic approaches such as Family Systems Theory (FST), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I work alongside each member of the family to explore negative patterns of interacting as well as strategies to be implemented with the goal of strengthening connections and creating a more cohesive family unit.

Exploring Feelings

I emphasize exploring and validating feelings experienced by each family member. At the same time, I focus on helping them develop healthier emotional regulation skills, with the ultimate goal of gaining a deeper understanding and more empathy for one another.

Finding Patterns

I work alongside family members to explore the negative patterns of interacting in which they get stuck. By exploring conflict that highlights the process that is taking place when issues arise, we can focus on how conflict is communicated rather than what is being communicated and explore conflict resolution strategies where each member of the family feels respected, heard and understood.

In my experience, this approach is highly effective as it brings into awareness the role each member plays in maintaining conflictual patterns and then allows us to explore creating effective change that can be sustained over the long-term.

Strengthening Bonds

I prioritize exploring strategies to strengthen the attachment relationship amongst all family members. For this, I work alongside parents to identify triggers and attachment patterns that could be influencing their current parenting practices. Through family or parent sessions, I work with parents to help you gain a more compassionate understanding of your children’s behaviours and encourage you to become curious about what is taking place.

These are the ways in which I have had success in helping families to not only heal but to also strengthen their connections.

I look forward to working with you and your loved ones.
